Using the Fox Graduate School Name

On July 19, 2024, Penn State announced the naming of the J. Jeffrey and Ann Marie Fox Graduate School. Here are some tips for how to use the new name.

Full Name First, then Shortened Name

On first mention in all documents, list the full name, J. Jeffrey and Ann Marie Fox Graduate School at Penn State. On subsequent mentions, you can use the Fox Graduate School or Penn State’s Fox Graduate School.

Example:

The J. Jeffrey and Ann Marie Fox Graduate School at Penn State is home to more than 300 graduate degree programs. The Fox Graduate School supports more than 13,000 graduate students across several Penn State campuses.

Is the Word “The” Needed?

In most situations, yes, you will be using “the” before the unit name in running text. This will be lowercase unless it is starting the sentence.

No “e” in “Ann”

Note that it is “Ann Marie” (no “e” at the end of her name).

When Communicating with People External to Penn State

Include “Penn State” with the name. “The J. Jeffrey and Ann Marie Fox Graduate School at Penn State…” If you’re communicating with others from Penn State, the Fox Graduate School is acceptable.
