Exit Survey

To strengthen graduate programs at Penn State, the J. Jeffrey and Ann Marie Fox Graduate School systematically monitors program activity and quality in a number of different ways, including the use of an exit survey sent to graduating students each semester. This confidential questionnaire for students who are completing advanced degrees is designed to obtain an assessment of the quality of their experience here and information regarding their employment upon degree completion.

Frequently Asked Questions

All graduate students who mark their intent to graduate receive an email linking to the survey.

Approximately ten days before commencement each semester, students receive the exit survey email.

The bulk of the questions are derived from those suggested by the AAU Data Exchange. There are roughly 40 questions related to:

Overall satisfaction
Program quality and training
Support
Faculty mentoring and advising
Professional development
Climate and obstacles to success
Post-graduation plans

The Fox Graduate School reviews the results periodically to identify program-level insights. College-level data is also periodically shared with deans for their analyses.
