Procedure

  1. The roles of Graduate Program Head and Director of Graduate Studies (DGS)/Professor-in-Charge (PIC) are stated in the Definitions section of GCAC-101 Graduate Faculty Membership.
    1. The Graduate Program Head has ultimate responsibility and academic authority for a graduate degree program.
    2. The Director of Graduate Studies (DGS)/Professor-in-Charge (PIC) may be delegated responsibility for oversight and operation of a graduate degree program by the Graduate Program Head.
  2. All responsibilities of the Graduate Program Head may be delegated to the Director of Graduate Studies (DGS)/Professor-in-Charge (PIC) at the Graduate Program Head’s discretion, with the following exceptions:
    1. The Graduate Program Head must approve the decision to terminate a graduate student from the graduate degree program.
    2. The Graduate Program Head must manage the appeal process of the termination of a student from the graduate degree program (see GCAC-803 Procedures for Termination of the Degree Program of a Graduate Student for Unsatisfactory Scholarship).
  3. Where a signature or electronic sign-off is required from either the Graduate Program Head or the Director of Graduate Studies (DGS)/Professor-in-Charge (PIC), that signature indicates that the individual has read and approves of the action to be taken.
