Application Process

If you feel that you are eligible for the McNair Scholars Program, please know the following information before you start your application.

• Penn State McNair conducts a comprehensive application process that ensures interested undergraduate students are a good fit for the program and meet program eligibility. A student enrolled into McNair remains in the program until their graduation from Penn State.
• The online application process is a time investment. An applicant must provide personal, financial, and academic information. An applicant must also submit a personal essay and arrange for two letters of recommendation. Additional information may be requested at the discretion of the McNair program director.
• Prior to applying prospective students should attend a virtual McNair information session or meet with McNair staff by appointment. To set up an appointment, contact the McNair office at 814-865-1095 or stop by our office location at 111 Kern Building.
• When directed by McNair staff, an applicant will be provided a link to complete the online application.
• After an applicant completes their online application, they will need to participate in a 45-minute interview. After the interview, the applicant will be notified of their status in a timely manner.
