The Office of Graduate Fellowships and Awards Administration

The Office of Graduate Fellowships and Awards Administration (OGFAA) is responsible for facilitating all Graduate School funding programs and awards. Funding programs are available for both incoming and continuing graduate students.

It is important to realize that the Graduate School funding process, like the admissions process, is decentralized. Therefore, applicants for Graduate School funding must be nominated and supported by their academic department and college.

Students should begin looking for financial support approximately one year in advance of the need for funding and stay in close communication with department or program leaders. Given that competitions for funding have particularly early deadlines, students also should investigate as many funding options as possible to avoid missing valuable opportunities.

The Office of Graduate Fellowships and Awards Administration supports Graduate Education in various ways including:

  1. Managing the process of allocating Graduate School funding to colleges and Graduate School Intercollege Graduate Degree Programs in order to promote excellence in graduate recruitment, student participation in professional development activities such as travel to professional conferences, and other events related to graduate student scholarship;
  2. Coordinating the oversight of centralized funding programs;
  3. Serving as the coordinating office for students who are awarded certain external fellowships and elect to attend Penn State for graduate school; and
  4. Identifying and pursuing external funding opportunities that will expand resources available to graduate students and recognize excellence in academic achievement.

If you are applying to Penn State or are a current graduate student, the Tuition and Funding page on our website will provide resources for identifying available funding at the University and from external agencies.
