 Industry Immersion Week, May 9-13, 2022

Are you a graduate student nearing graduation or a postdoctoral scholar considering your next steps? Are you interested in exploring careers beyond the academy?

Are you interested in exploring careers beyond the academy?

If so, then Industry Immersion Week is for you! The program is an intensive experiential learning opportunity specifically designed to help graduate students and postdocs prepare for a successful job search and future career. During Industry Immersion Week, participants network and learn from industry leaders, Penn State alumni, and career services professionals. The program has three key learning outcomes:

Self-Knowledge
Participants explore their strengths, skills, values, and interests to develop a career vision to guide future job searches.
 

Career Exploration
Participants are introduced to different sectors of industry and gain skills to be successful in corporate settings.

The Job Search
Participants will hone their resume, cover letters, interviewing and networking skills.

Eligibility:

  • Penn State doctoral students within 2 years of graduation
  • Penn State master’s students within 1 year of graduation
  • Penn State postdoctoral researchers and scholars

When and Where:

  • May 9–13, 2022 at University Park campus. Program begins at 6:00 pm on Monday, May 9 with an Industry Networking reception. Sessions run 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Tuesday through Thursday. Program concludes mid-day on Friday, May 13. Participants must attend all sessions.

Cost:     

  • $50 registration fee covers all meeting materials and lunches.

Travel Grants:

  • Travel grants are available to students and postdocs who are not enrolled at University Park campus. Grants cover transportation expenses up to $125 and hotel accommodations with breakfast for four nights.

Job Search Strategies for Graduate Students: February 8-24, 2022

The Graduate School in collaboration with Career Services is hosting Job Search Strategies Workshop Series for graduate students on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from February 8 through February 24, 2022.

Job Search Strategies is a workshop series open to all graduate students and postdoctoral researchers featuring industry speakers and professional development experts that explores the wide range of career opportunities beyond the academy, methods to navigate a job search, and tactics to secure desired positions.

The series will include sessions on how to align your career path with your passions and interests, building an effective resume and cover letter; organizational culture, networking, and interviewing; job offers and negotiations; entrepreneurship and leadership; and strategies for successful interviews. Sessions will be led by professionals from industry and Penn State Career Services. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with career counselors as they develop their materials over the course of the workshop series.

While participants are encouraged to attend the full series of workshops, students are welcome to attend those sessions that are most closely aligned with their interests and schedule.

Registering in advance is strongly encouraged.
