Checklist for Off-site/Online Program 3-Year Follow-up Reports - Procedure


GCAC-213 Residency and Related Policies for Off-Campus Degree Programs


Part of the approval process for programs approved (by the Graduate Council Committee on Programs and Courses) to be offered off-site/online or extended from the graduate center location approved to offer the program calls for a report to the Committee during the third year after inception of the program. Following is a checklist of the information to be included in the three-year report.

  1. Course development process/schedule
  2. Number of applications per year
  3. Number of offers and offers as a percentage of applications (selectivity)
  4. Number of accepts and accepts as a percentage of offers (yield)
  5. Enrollments for each year the program has been offered
  6. Quality of students applying to and admitted by the program (baccalaureate institutions, GPA, GREs if relevant, etc.)
  7. Information on students enrolled in the program to include age, what percentage had a previous connection with Penn State (resident courses), where the students are coming from (industry, government, etc.)
  8. Degrees conferred
  9. Time-to-degree data
  10. Indicators of student excellence appropriate to the discipline (e.g., papers submitted for publication in refereed journals, presentations at professional meetings, national awards, etc.)
  11. Number of students from underrepresented groups (admitted)
  12. Description of components of residency as described in GCAC-213 Residency and Related Policies for Off-Campus Degree Programs for the program, and how they have been incorporated in the program offering
  13. Information on full-time faculty advising and the effectiveness of the advising process to include an explanation of how master’s papers topics are selected, sequencing of courses (what happens if a student should get out of sequence), career development, etc.
  14. Ratio of Graduate Faculty to students advised in the program
  15. Evaluation of teaching effectiveness (including SRTEs and peer evaluations)
  16. List of instructors and courses taught (including who is the instructor of record; who actually delivered the course; number of times taught; status of instructor, i.e., fixed-term, assistant professor, associate professor, etc.)
  17. Results of student exit surveys related to overall satisfaction with the degree program
  18. Placement or other relevant data to show impact of the program on student marketability or advancement (e.g., placement and starting salaries, etc.)
  19. Any other pertinent information as to how the off-site/online venue has served both the students and instructors
