- New Graduate Student Orientation
On Wednesday, August 16, the Graduate School will sponsor a half-day orientation session for all new graduate students, including new international graduate students. This half-day session will be held at the Bryce Jordan Center from 1 to 5 p.m. and is followed by the annual Graduate School Reception at 5 p.m.
- Penn State graduate student selected for NASA astronaut program
Zena Cardman, a doctoral student in geosciences, was named to NASA's 2017 astronaut class on June 7. Cardman and the others are now considered astronaut candidates and will start a two-year training program in August before they can become full astronauts and qualify for spaceflight missions.
- Graduate School Alumni Society Early Career Award
Penn State Graduate School alumnus Matthew S. Hall received the Graduate School Alumni Society (GSAS) Early Career Award on March 25 at the annual GSAS recognition dinner. This award was established to recognize alumni who have demonstrated exceptional success in their chosen field within the first 10 years after obtaining their graduate degree.
- Doctoral Alumni Recognition Ceremony
The Wall of Honor Ceremony recognizes the professional achievements of alumni who received their doctorate 10, 25 and 50 years ago. The Wall of Honor, located in the lobby of Kern Graduate Building, is updated annually with the names of alumni who received their doctorate 50 years ago. At present, the Wall of Honor displays the names of more than 3,000 alumni.

Penn State’s graduate school programs continue to perform well in the annual U.S. News & World Report “Best Graduate Schools” rankings, the latest of which were announced March 14.
