A Message from Dr. Regina Vasilatos-Younken

Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the Graduate School

April 2016

With heartfelt pride and enthusiasm, I welcome you to the first edition of the Graduate School’s newsletter! The launch of this newsletter symbolizes our commitment to strengthening existing connections with our Graduate School alumni and the graduate education community at the University, while expanding the network of audiences for news and features that celebrate the countless success stories of our alumni, graduate students and graduate faculty.

Quite simply, we no longer want the Graduate School to be one of Penn State’s best kept secrets. The intellectual community at the University is dynamic. We have world-class faculty who, together with our graduate students, are doing extraordinary research to solve a multitude of diverse problems throughout our global society. We produce graduates who become leaders in many different careers, not just in the academy but in the private sector and government, and all over the world.

The array of research and graduate scholarship being conducted at Penn State is truly amazing. Faculty and administrators pursue every opportunity for our graduate students to enjoy robust professional development opportunities, intellectual growth, and experiences that enrich their life outside the classroom, studio and laboratory. We want to position our graduate students for a great career trajectory that will not only be fulfilling to them, but will help society. Part of that is ensuring that our graduate programs are of the highest quality in every way, including the courses our students take, the mentoring they receive from faculty, and the research and scholarship opportunities they are afforded.

Moving forward, we encourage you to submit your announcements of career achievements and updates, and any other news of general interest that you would like to share with our readers in the Class Notes section. The content of this newsletter is designed to inform and inspire. I am confident your submissions will do both.

I look forward to the ongoing exchange of exciting news and information fostered by this newsletter. Thank you for your interest in graduate education at Penn State, and best wishes for success in all your pursuits.
