The View from Kern - November 2017

A Message from Dr. Regina Vasilatos-Younken
Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the Graduate School

As the end of the year fast approaches, I want to share important updates from the Graduate School. First, I am pleased to announce that William A. Clark has been named associate dean of the Graduate School. As associate dean, Bill will primarily focus on graduate program review and assessment for all of the 302 graduate degree programs representing 196 major fields of study at the University. Bill received his bachelor’s degree from Penn State, and we are happy to welcome him back to the University.

I also want to acknowledge the 15 graduate students named National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellows for the 2017-18 academic year. With only 2,000 of these fellowships awarded to over 13,000 applicants from across the country, these individuals are among the most talented scholars in research doctorate programs, and we expect great things from them.

Lastly, thanks to all of our alumni who submitted Class Notes updates. I encourage you to read their updates and submit your own for future issues of the newsletter.
